Point-Based Graphics A Tutorial by Marc Alexa, TU Darmstadt Markus Gross, ETH Zurich Hanspeter Pfister, MERL Mark Pauly, ETH Zurich Marc Stamminger, Uni Erlangen Matthias Zwicker, ETH Zurich |
||||
Point-sampled graphics allows us to efficiently acquire, process, and display complex, real-life, three-dimensional objects. This tutorial introduces points as a powerful and versatile graphics primitive complementing traditional triangle representations. The authors present their latest concepts for the acquisition, representation, modeling, processing, and rendering of point-sampled geometry along with applications and future research directions. We describe algorithms and discuss implementations, covering the most important aspects of point-based computer graphics. This course will be presented this year at SIGGRAPH. It has also been held previously as a tutorial at Eurographics 2002 in Saarbrucken, Germany, and Eurographics 2003 in Granada, Spain. |
